This month’s theme is traditions, and we have this lovely multicultural Thanksgiving book to share.
After learning all about Thanksgiving (aka “Turkey Day”) at school, Tuyet looks forward to Thanksgiving dinner with her Vietnamese American family but is taken aback to find out that they’re not planning to roast a turkey at all. It’s duck that they’ll be feasting on. Even though Tuyet has a fantastic time with her relatives and cousins at Thanksgiving, and absolutely loves her grandmother’s spicy duck, she’s reluctant to share about it in class at school on Monday. Little does she know how varied and unique her classmates’ traditions are. A terrific Thanksgiving story that celebrates diversity, inclusivity and culture.
Duck for Turkey Day was written by Jacqueline Jules, illustrated by Kathryn Mitter and published by Albert Whitman.
