Frindle | Little Lit Book Series

Frindle—a made-up word that turns an entire school and town upside down.  What starts out as a clever and slightly mischievous fifth grader making fun of his teacher’s love of the dictionary quickly spirals out of control.  Words have a way of taking on a life of their own, you know (especially amongst high-spirited fifth graders).  Frindle makes for an engaging read-aloud, with pauses for intriguing discussion.  This incredible story is a reminder that language is never static—just the opposite—it is always in flux.

Frindle was written by Andrew Clements, illustrated by Brian Selznick and published by Atheneum Books for Young Readers.
