I Will Always Write Back: How One Letter Changed Two Lives by Caitlin Alifirenka and Martin Ganda with Liz Welch is truly compelling Young Adult non-fiction that is sure to inspire. The book tells the story of Caitlin, a 12-year-old girl in Pennsylvania and Martin, a 14-year-old boy in Zimbabwe who become pen pals. The book alternates between Caitlin and Martin as they recount their incredibly different daily lives and the letters that connect them to each other. I found their story to be both moving and eye opening as Caitlin learns of the extreme poverty that Martin and his family live in and wonders how she can help. Reading about how their correspondence shifted their world view and changed the course of their lives is really incredible and will resonate with teenage and adult readers alike.
