Ukrainian-born artist Sonia Delaunay lived in Paris and was known for her use of bold colors and shapes, and her significant contributions to abstractionism and the avant-garde movement.  In this vibrant and gorgeously illustrated book, she takes her young son James on a trip in her magical flying car.  It’s no ordinary excursion (and of course a flying car is no ordinary mode of transport!).  Her goal is to show him a different way of seeing colors—listening to their sounds, feeling them and letting them speak for themselves.  She shows him that “Art is all around us, always.”  Truly a beautiful book, and an insightful look into one of the twentieth century’s most creative minds.  Highly recommend seeking this one out!

Sonia Delaunay: A Life of Color was written by Cara Manes, illustrated by Fatinha Ramos and published by MoMA | Abrams.
