A collection of poems about the plants, animals and insects in cities — the “moss in sidewalk cracks” sending up “delicate shoots,” moth caterpillars cozily curling up inside hollow acorns, the ladybugs that crawl into the cracks of the side of a house.  One of our favorite poems is entitled “Hurry Up and Wait,” about an inchworm spinning a cocoon and settling into the long wait to transform into a moth.  The layered collages throughout provide beautiful, magical backdrops for this unexpectedly delightful set of poems about urban life.

Hidden City: Poems of Urban Wildlife was written by Sarah Grace Tuttle, illustrated by Amy Schmiler-Safford and published by Eerdman’s Books for Young Readers.
